Walking Football Group

Gail and Julian Hickman run the Walking Football Group.  Julian is an FA qualified football coach.    This group meets weekly in the Sant Antoni de Calonge Camp Municipal D'esports, on Tuesday's from 4.30 til 5.30 pm.  .  Sign in on the web-page in the normal way.  We play inside the Sports Hall on a hard surface.

Walking sports are very popular in the UK. Football, Tennis, Basketball and Netball also have walking versions of the game, with some simple rule changes to help the slower games to still work. They were developed to allow regular players to return from injury within the sport, or who had to retire from the full game, to continue to enjoy playing at some level.  Most importantly, they allow anyone of any age to participate in a low impact activity, and can be adapted to any level. Therefore, those who cannot run and jump as they used to, can easily participate, and benefit from the mental, social and obvious overall health benefits of a fun, group session of easy to moderate exercise.

Walking Football is open to all ages, abilities and gender and is a non-contact sport. The venue @ Sant Antoni de Calonge is an indoor sports hall and generally we have enough people for at least 5 side ( although much smaller sided games are possible) .  The pitch size is adjusted to suit the amount of players . Players need a suitable training shoe with grip but shin pads are not necessary and please bring a water bottle.  Any training shoe can be used but Football boots ( if you still have some !) with studs or blades cannot be used . We will play 3 x 20 minute matches with drinks breaks between and a 10 minute warm up to start and 10 minutes to cool down which we will do outside the hall .

Julian and Gail would like to now invite anyone interested to contact them as soon as possible, either through the "Email the Coordinators" link on the Group Web Page ; or by phone/whatsapp  +44 7831 885 458;  or to apply to join the group use the appropriate icon on the Group Web Page.

The sessions will be same time each week:- Tuesdays 4.30 pm until 5.30pm . You can arrive from 4.20 pm for a 10 minute warm up before Kick Off .
