Groups

NEW MEMBERS.

You are now members of the Costa Brava U3A. It is time for you to decide which of the following groups interest you and you would like to join. The group coordinator describes the activities and other important information on their group page so have a look. Once you decide which groups you would like to join please email the coordinators. This is very easy to do as on each group page, just under the coordinator contact details there is an envelope,  click on it and an email will open for you to complete to request group membership. You will need to do this for each group you would like to join. This email goes directly to the coordinator and contains all your contact details.

Walking is wonderful in Catalunya, and our walks take us into quiet lanes, fields and forests, along magnificent coastlines, rivers and streams and sometimes into the mountains where we see mediaeval villages, castles, monasteries, carpets of spring flowers, a wide range of birds and the occasional wild animal.   We talk all the time and laugh a lot - the medical profession tells us that this activity is good for us because it gets the heart pumping vigorously without straining the system, oils the joints, and fills our lungs with the pure air of this beautiful part of Spain (and that's only the laughing).

The RAMBLERS walking group is one of two groups walking medium length distances on the second Wednesday of each month - the other being the BRAVAS. The overlap is due to the need to keep the numbers walking on each event to a safe and manageable size.
We walk at a steady pace and take short breaks about once an hour. The walk organiser leads from the front and a backstop supports slower walkers at the rear. Cameras, binoculars and mobile phones are welcome but, by common agreement, children under the age of 16yrs and dogs are not permitted to join us.

Our walks are open to Ramblers Group members, so you will need to request that the coordinator add you to the membership before you can sign up for a walk. Each walk is limited to no more than 25 participants, to ensure that the walking group is easily manageable.  Details of walks are published 10 – 14 days in advance - house-guests are welcome, on request to the event organiser, provided that the walk is not full. We aim to cover between 6 and 10 kilometres, taking between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the terrain. If possible, we try to find somewhere en-route for a coffee break, though this will depend on the location and the time of year. Afterwards, those who wish can normally partake of a menu del dia at a local restaurant, arranged by that month's walk organiser.

Our walks take place in both Baix Emporda and Alt Emporda - we try to ensure a reasonable balance between the two parts of what is quite a large geographic area.

Everybody is encouraged to volunteer to lead a walk and find a suitable place for a "Menu del Dia" every so often. Without volunteers for the organiser role each month the group cannot continue and thrive.

Please note that, as with all U3A events, we do not provide insurance for event participants. Please bring your Catsalut or EHIC card, and details of any other private insurance policy.
We do carry a basic first aid kit to treat minor injuries.

Reminder Notes for Walk Leaders
·         Check the Information for Event Organisers on the website. This will show you how to operate, prepare and post an Event, and don’t forget that I am always available to assist you.  There is also a table showing levels of difficulty for you to select from as we need to put that onto all our walks.
·         It may be some months from when you volunteered to lead a walk to actually doing it, so don’t forget to put a note in your diary to check out your walk, find a restaurant etc before you have to write up the event.
·         Prior to your event I will send you a reminder email along with the template to be completed and returned to me 3 weeks before the event date. Don’t worry if you have problems - I am here to help, if necessary.
·         Once the event is posted the Event Organiser, i.e. you, receives emails as members sign on.
