Taster Menu -talk about the aims of the college and kitchen tour
Wednesday 29th April – 13.00. 20 places.
Cookery Group members have priority. In line with U3A rules priority is given to group members. Guests may be invited after 22nd April.
This college in Palafrugell trains young people to work in hospitality. As well as learning to
prepare and cook food, they develop people skills – from serving customers to mixing
cocktails. They are encouraged to use any languages they know. So our U3A represents
their future international customers.
As well as cooking and serving breakfasts to staff of the college and local people in the
morning, they cook main dishes for sale to the public. Three days a week they offer
different lunch menus. This event is for the Wednesday Taster Menu.
Starting with a cocktail mixed by the students, there are 6 dishes – 2 starters, 2 mains and 2
desserts. Red and white wine is offered with the mains. Cava and petit fours are served at
the end of the meal. The student chefs responsible for each dish will ask for your opinion, answer questions and describe the contents of the dishes. You will be able to tour thekitchen with the head of the school after the meal if you wish.
The menu is fixed. The details will be put on the U3A website by 15th April. If you are allergic
to any foods please inform the organiser.
The staff will prepare an alternative for any
customers with food allergies or special diets. So as to include this in the training they would
need to be notified a week before the event.
After the academic year ends in the summer the students generally find work in kitchens. In
joining this Cookery Group event you are giving them real life experience and practise their skills. The head chefs are planning a menu that will appeal to our particular
group.
After the meal you may buy freshly cooked ready meals and cakes to take away.
Cost – €30. Including cocktail, paired wines, bread and water. Extra drinks can be
purchased if required.
PLEASE NOTE THAT ANY FOOD ALLERGIES SHOULD BE NOTIFIED TO THE
ORGANISER BY 19th APRIL.
