We are a small group who meet on the third Monday of each month, except July, August and December. Our aim is to offer more challenging, all-day hikes, which may entail longer travelling times to reach some of the mountain locations such as the Garrotxa, or foothills of the Pyrenees, but with the end reward of discovering some spectacular regions. Walks usually last for approximately 6 hours and the type of terrain can vary between coastal paths, rural trails or more difficult mountain tracks. Unlike other walking groups we do not finish with a menu del dia in a restaurant, but we take a packed lunch and, whenever possible, have some refreshments afterwards in a local bar. Depending on the difficulty of the terrain and height gain, walks may vary in length between 15 and 20 + kilometres and last around 5 hours.
As we are relatively few participants, each of us will normally be encouraged to lead a walk every year. Advice and help on suitable walks is available from the more experienced Camels in the group. A maximum number of walkers is set for each walk depending on the distance and terrain, priority being given to members of the group, but family and friends are welcome to join us if there is room. Advice on footwear, clothing and recommended kit is available for each walk. Details of the walks will be notified via the events page no later than 7 days before the walk.
In recent years, our walks have taken us to many locations along the coast, up into the Gavarres mountains, the Ardenya, Alt Garrotxa, Cadaques, Macanet de Cabrenys, the Sant Aniol gorges, Collsacabra, Rocacorba etc. There are still a multitude of beautiful areas waiting to be discovered...
