Cycling for Pleasure is the original U3A Costa Cycling Group created in 2003.

EVENTS are aimed at the Non-Assisted cyclist with basic skills who cycle for pleasure rather than as a serious cyclist. E Bikes are welcome but must be prepared to cycle at the speed of the slowest cyclist. Members should be comfortable riding at an average speed of approx. 17kph.

ROUTES: Distance 25 to 30km. on minor roads, dedicated cycle & country paths with good surface. Routes may include gradual inclines of up to 8% avoiding STEEP HILLS.

Bikes should preferably be hybrid. Road bikes with thin tyres may not be compatible with some paths..

Safety & consideration for our members:
For their own safety ALL U3A CYCLISTS ARE REQUESTED TO WEAR HELMETS.

Each member should carry Basic 1st Aid kit, spare inner tubes, cycle pump.
We ask that everyone stays behind the leader/organiser
There is a link to U3A Cycle Guidelines at top of this Groups Page.   (updated 2021)  Web sites like Plotaroute, Mapometer & Wikiloc are useful to record & check route difficulty.
To view details & web links to of many of the routes the group have enjoyed over the last few years:

Our friendly group's aims are:

  • To cycle at a pleasurable pace.
  • To take advantage of as many off road cycle tracks and C class roads as possible.
  • To avoid steeper terrain.
  • Seek to explore different areas of the beautiful countryside.
  • Take a previously tested fairly circular route.
  • Passing through a point of interest or village where the group can take the opportunity to pause for breath and browse.
  • If possible the starting/finishing point is at a parking place near a restaurant offering a reasonable `Menu del Dia.'   Attendance to a meal following the event is optional.
