Bravas Walk – Calella de Palafrugell, Ermedàs and Cap Roig

Wednesday, 14 January @ 10:00 - 15:30

We will walk through Calella to the Cami de Sta Maria towards Palafrugell.  Pleasant walk through woods. We then pass the Torre Roja onto the Via Verde (former ‘Little Train’ Track).

We head towards Palamos on the Via Verde then take a left turn to Ermedàs. A short walk along a country lane into Ermedàs from where we access a path which meanders through beautiful countryside up to a point north of Cap Roig. Slow ascent but not difficult.

The road then drops down into Calella (1 mile) back to starting point with the opportunity en route to take a short detour to a coasta viewing point.

Additional Information
POINTS OF INTEREST: Tower houses Torre Roja and at least 3 others in Ermedas. Towers are either circular or square and were built in 16th and 17th centuries to defend from the attacking north African pirates (Barbaries). It is said that they captured over a million Europeans for either ransom or slavery. Pretty church in Ermedas, Sant Ramon d’Ermedas built 16th Century but unable to enter. Calella ‘s origin is that of a fishing village. Its old maritime quarter, PORT BO, has been declared a cultural asset of national importance. The old quarter retains the original layout of the village with its traditional white porched buildings including a complex of vaults originally used to store and sew nets. The former net dyeing house is now used as a tourist office in the Summer. The Little Green Train was a narrow gauge railway in operation from 1887 until 1952 transporting goods from Palamos and Girona. It began with steam trains becoming part of a larger network which suffered damage during the Spanish Civil War and eventually closed with its disused tracks becoming the popular Via Verde for walking and cycling.
