The “Ruta dels Gegants del Bosc” (woodland giants’ route) is a circular walk beginning and ending in the small village of Romanyà de la Selva. The route offers plenty of shade and passes through a landscape typical of the Gavarres Massif. It features a series of interesting historical and natural points of interest including the giants themselves (huge centuries-old cork oak trees), prehistoric Megalithic sites (dolmens and menhirs), unusual rock formations, an impressive modernist cross and Romanyà’s Romanesque church.
The route itself is only about 4 kilometres and should be completed within an hour and a quarter.
There is a bar by the car park in Romanyà which will be open for coffee etc before the walk and refreshments at the end. Those who feel that they have not exercised enough can take a broad road/track from the bar (one kilometre each way) to the Mirador de les Mirandes (one kilometre each way) from where there are truly spectacular views over the entire region.
Lunch will be at the nearby La Font Picant restaurant on the outskirts of Santa Cristina
Cancellation: If the event has to be cancelled for any reason you will receive an email & there will be a cancellation notice on the U3A website by 8 am on the morning of the event.
