NEW MEMBERS.

You are now members of the Costa Brava U3A. It is time for you to decide which of the following groups interest you and you would like to join. The group coordinator describes the activities and other important information on their group page so have a look. Once you decide which groups you would like to join please email the coordinators. This is very easy to do as on each group page, just under the coordinator contact details there is an envelope,  click on it and an email will open for you to complete to request group membership. You will need to do this for each group you would like to join. This email goes directly to the coordinator and contains all your contact details.

BRAVAS GROUP 

Walking is wonderful in Catalunya, and our walks take us into quiet lanes, fields and forests, along magnificent coastlines, rivers and streams and sometimes into the mountains where we see medieval villages, castles, monasteries, carpets of spring flowers, a wide range of birds and the occasional wild animal.   We talk all the time and laugh a lot - and the medics tell us that the activity is good for us because it gets the heart pumping vigorously without straining the system, oils the joints and fills our lungs with the pure air of this beautiful part of Spain.  
 
We walk at a steady pace and take short breaks about once an hour. The walk organiser leads from the front and the backstop supports slower walkers at the rear. Cameras and binoculars are welcome and we encourage mobile phones in case of accidents but by common agreement, dogs and children under the age of 16yrs are not allowed.  
 
Our walks are organised on the second Wednesday of each month and open to Bravas members with priority given to those who agree to lead a walk during the following twelve months and those who have led medium walks before. Every member should expect to lead a walk at least once every couple of years. Each walk is limited to 25.   Details of each walk are published 10 – 14 days in advance and house-guests are welcome, on request to the event organiser, provided that the walk is not full. 
 
SHARING Is an important principle for our U3A and includes;
·         Hospitality – if a group member hosting an event at their home provides refreshments, a contribution of 50 cents should be collected from each member attending to cover costs.
·         Transport - To reduce driving costs and encourage members to offer lifts to others in the group our U3A has a formula to share costs. Multiply the number of kilometres driven x 20 cents and divide between the number of people in the car (including the driver). It is extremely important that all members share these costs regardless of their ability to cover the costs themselves. This is to avoid embarrassment and enable everyone to offer hospitality or transport and hence participate fully in the U3A.

Reminder Notes for Walk Leaders
·         Check the Information for Event Coordinators on the website. This will show you how to operate, prepare and post an Event, and don’t forget that I am always available to assist you.  There is also a table showing levels of difficulty for you to select from as we need to put that onto all our walks.
·         It may be some  months from when you volunteered to lead a walk to actually doing it so don’t forget to put a your diary to check out your walk , find a restaurant etc before you have to write up the event.
·         Prior to your event I will send you a reminder email along with the template to be completed and returned to me 3 weeks before the event date. Don’t worry if you have problems I am here to help
·         Once the event is posted the walk leader/coordinator ie you, receive emails as members sign on.
